A leisurely 25 minute cruise from Townsville in the Great Barrier Reef region, Magnetic Island boasts a landscape as unique as it is beautiful.

The contrasting landscape of this World Heritage listed island encompasses 23 secluded beaches and bays framed by inspiring rocky granite headlands softened by majestic hoop pines.

Magnetic Island’s distinctive natural surrounds is two thirds National Park providing a haven for the native wildlife including rock wallabies, possums and over 100 species of birdlife. The island is also home to the largest colony of koalas flourishing in their natural habitat.

The glistening turquoise water off Magnetic Island is abounding with tropical fish and marine life with the magical sights of the coral reefs awaiting exploration.

Captain Cook first discovered Magnetic Island in 1770. He believed the island possessed a magnetic force that threw his compass off course. Although it was later proven there was no force present, Magnetic Island has retained its name.
