World Heritage Rainforests
Numerous rainforests can be found throughout this luscious region ranging from palm filled sub tropical to cool temperate rainforests. Your options include Mt Warning, the Border Ranges, Nightcap Mountain, Tooloom, Richmond Range, Toonumbar, Mebbin and Koreelah National Parks. Australian Wild Escapes offer small group tours to the region daily.
Gold Coast Theme Parks
Peppers Salt Resort & Spa is within close proximity to many renowned tourism icons. A range of theme parks, for kids, the whole family and the young at heart are only a 15 to 45 minute drive away. These include Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Australian Outback Spectacular, Sea World, Dreamworld, White Water World, Movie World and Wet ‘n’ Wild.
Byron Bay
Australia’s most easterly point, Byron Bay, is a short 40 minute drive south of Salt Village. The town is famous for its world renowned surfing beaches and luscious countryside. An early 1900’s government report referred to it as having a “unique ambience”. This positive energy was well known to the Bundjalung Aboriginal tribes who used it to help resolve disputes and for celebrations.

Banana Cabana & Bushtucker Garden
Buck Buchanan is the local farmer that grows some very interesting food in their natural environment. Asian and Japanese restaurants seek him out for his extensive range of bush foods. This is the only place in Australia that you’ll find the Yuzu fruit. Besides being use in Japanese cooking, Japanese ladies rub it all over their body as a skin care and they also bathe in it.
Music & Wine at Ilnam Estate Winery
Enjoy local wines and good food with fantastic views overlooking the Tweed Coast and surrounding mountainside at Ilnam Estate Winery, Carool. You can try out their wines in the boutique cellar-door facility, or sip on locally grown Carool Coffee and tasting lunch-time fare in the cafe. You can also catch local musicians at the regular Sunday afternoon sessions.
Protestors Falls
Discover the birthplace of Australia’s environmental movement at Protestors Falls on Terania Creek. This isolated waterfall near Nimbin was the site of the famous anti-logging protests that captured worldwide headlines the late 1970s. As you wander along the walking track to the falls through thick stand of Bangalow palms, buttress-rooted figs, maiden’s blush, elkhorns and staghorns, you’ll come to appreciate what all the fuss was about.
Mount Warning
Mount Warning is the ancient core of the largest and best preserved extinct shield volcano in the world. For most of the year, the peach of the mountain is where the sun’s rays first touch the Australian mainland. The 4.4 kilometre rainforest walk to the summit will reward you with the view of a lifetime across the volcanic caldera.
Crystal Castle
The Crystal Castle, a place of magic and wonder, is a short but breathtaking drive into Byron Bay’s spectacular hinterland. It’s a place to relax and step off the merry-go-round of life. Set amongst acres of lush gardens with panoramic views, the Crystal Castle features extraordinary statues, amazing natural crystals, exquisite jewellery, and a bookshop.
Local Art

The Tweed River Regional Art Gallery at Murwillumbah was the original home of the world’s richest portrait prize, the $100,000 Doug Moran National Portrait Competition. Winning entries from the 1988 to 2000 form part of the gallery’s permanent collection and an on-going series of exhibitions showcase regional and national art works. After you’ve finished admiring the collections, relax at the Gallery Cafe with its sweeping hilltop views of the Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley.
Mad Cow Mania
Resident of Mooball take their namesake seriously – black and white cow motifs are painted on virtually everything in sight – the local cafe, the petrol station, even telegraph poles of this quirky village just off the motorway north Yelgun. If you’re into all things bovine, you’ll love the collectables at Moo Moo Cafe where you’ll also find old-fashioned hamburgers.
Go surfing
Make the most of the beautiful beaches and their clear warm water with surfing lessons at Cabarita Beach Surf School. Their local professional surfers/instructors will introduce you to surfing with safe and exciting fun for the whole family.
