Chef profile - Jason Smith

Jason Smith, Executive Chef at Cove Restaurant and Bar has a love of ‘the artistic visuals created on a plate and that sense of self-satisfaction when people are moved by the kitchen's creations,’ and this is aptly reflected in the dishes he creates.

Smith started out his culinary career as an apprentice Chef at Daniel Alps at Strathlynn. After a few years of travelling up the East Coast of Australia and expanding his knowledge of different climates and flavours, he returned to his Tasmanian roots as Head Chef at Daniel Alps.

Upon undertaking the Head Chef position at Cove Restaurant and Bar, Smith’s progressive influence has been undeniable. Within 18 months under his direction, the restaurant was awarded a Chef’s Hat by the Australian Good Food Guide.

Merging simple and elegant plating, with surprising complex flavour combinations, it’s no wonder that Smith’s culinary career has moved in leaps and bounds.
