Geothermal Wonders

Incredible earth forces just below the surface give rise to this area's fame. Watch boiling mud pools, gushing geysers or even fly over an active volcano just off the pacific shore.

Fishing

There are eleven lakes of varying size and depth in the vicinity of Rotorua. Most lakes are open all year round. Major fishing lakes are Rotorua, Rotoiti, Tarawera, Okataina and Rotoma. To a lesser extent Lakes Rerewhakaaitu, Rotoehu, Aniwhenua (on the Rangitaiki River) and Waikaremoana cna be found must further east of the others.

Mount Tarawera Volcano Tours

Guided 4WD tours to the summit of this dormant volcano offer amazing views from where in the North you can see Whale Island in the Bay of Plenty and to the South you can see the town of Taupo. You will be told how spiritually significant the site is for the local Maori and of the events in 1886 when Mount Tarawera erupted.

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonders

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is New Zealand's most colourful and diverse geothermal experience. Visitors walking at their own pace absorb the unique features which include naturally coloured hot and cold pools, the world famous Champagne Pool which occupies a 65 metre wide explosion crater, bubbling mud, steaming ground, expansive vistas and huge volcanic craters. The Lady Knox Geyser erupts daily at 10.15am.
