Incredible earth forces just below the surface give rise to this area's fame. Watch boiling mud pools, gushing geysers or even fly over an active volcano just off the pacific shore.
Fishing
There are eleven lakes of varying size and depth in the vicinity of Rotorua. Most lakes are open all year round. Major fishing lakes are Rotorua, Rotoiti, Tarawera, Okataina and Rotoma. To a lesser extent Lakes Rerewhakaaitu, Rotoehu, Aniwhenua (on the Rangitaiki River) and Waikaremoana cna be found must further east of the others.

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonders
Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is New Zealand's most colourful and diverse geothermal experience. Visitors walking at their own pace absorb the unique features which include naturally coloured hot and cold pools, the world famous Champagne Pool which occupies a 65 metre wide explosion crater, bubbling mud, steaming ground, expansive vistas and huge volcanic craters.
