RETREAT TO THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS FOR A GOURMET WEEKEND  

Peppers Retreats in the Southern Highlands are holding a two-day culinary event on 17 and 18 August to treat food fans with a unique immersion into their ‘Gourmet Food Trail’ of fine produce and cool climate wines.

The unique ‘In Season in the Southern Highlands’ event will give guests the opportunity to not only taste the Southern Highland’s finest seasonal produce, but to really experience the journey of the food, from the paddock to the plate.

Priced from $750* per couple, the ‘In Season in the Southern Highlands’ event package includes two nights’ accommodation for two people at either Peppers Manor House or Peppers Craigieburn, a local produce Peppers travel bag full of regional fare, recipes and more to take home, and a feast of unique dining experiences and events.

The weekend culinary event commences at 7pm on Friday 17 August with an ‘Evening of Grazing Delights’ with local producers at Peppers Craigieburn. Guests will wander from stall to stall grazing on the delights and getting to know the local Southern Highlands producers, whilst sipping a selection of the regions world-class cool climate wines.

The event package also includes two tickets to an indulgent five-course Peppers ‘In Season’ degustation dinner on Saturday 18 August at Peppers Manor House, hosted by wine expert Nick Stock* and prepared by Executive Chefs Twan Wyers of Peppers Manor House and Warrick Brook of Peppers Craigieburn, and featuring a sumptuous menu with an emphasis on winter vegetables.

Cool-climate wines are matched to each dish by award-winning wine critic, Nick Stock, who will engage and entertain guests with his experience and expertise.

For an additional $90 per person, food fans can also embark on a Southern Highlands Food Trail tour of local farms, hosted by Peppers and FoodPath, on Saturday 18 August. The full-day tour includes tastings of jams, fruit pastes and berry vinegars at the gorgeous Montrose Berry farm, a delicious two-course lunch and a glass of wine at Studio Restaurant at Exeter and a guided wine and cheese tasting at Joadja Winery at Berrima.

Event only tickets are also available to both evening events. Tickets to the grazing delight evening on 17 August are $55 per person. Tickets to the five-course ‘In Season’ degustation dinner on 18 August are $150 per person.

For those who can’t make the weekend event, Peppers Manor House and Peppers Craigieburn have specially crafted Gourmet Food Trail Packages which allow guests to experience the best of the Southern Highlands at their leisure.

Experience Peppers Manor House’s Gourmet Food Trail Package from $433* per night (Sunday to Thursday and with no minimum night stay) and enjoy overnight accommodation in a Hillside Room, a gourmet hamper featuring a sample of local produce and a local food trail map, full buffet breakfast for two and a taste sensation from Chef Wyers with a three-course a la carte dinner for two at the retreat’s Katers Restaurant, which was recently awarded an Australian Good Food Guide Chefs Hat. Priced from $389* per night, the package includes accommodation in a Elms Wing Room, full buffet breakfast for two and Chef Brook’s five-course degustation dinner for two with matched wines at the retreat’s Montfort’s Dining Room. INTRODUCING CHEF TWAN WYERS – KATERS RESTAURANT, PEPPERS MANOR HOUSE
Born in Holland, Katers Restaurant Executive Chef Twan Wyers progressed in his career to work around the great restaurants of The Netherlands, such as the Amstel InterContinental Hotel’s two-Michelin-star restaurant in Amsterdam. Chef Wyers then travelled and worked throughout Australia, the South Pacific, South East Asia and New Zealand, where he headed up the kitchen at the world renowned Huka Lodge for five years as Executive Chef. After New Zealand, Chef Wyers moved back to Australia to take on the challenge as Executive Chef at Hamilton Island's five-star Beach Club resort for four years. Chef Wyers now brings his talents to the tables at Katers at Peppers Manor House.

INTRODUCING CHEF WARRICK BROOK – MONTFORTS DINING ROOM, PEPPERS CRAIGIEBURN
Leading the team at Montfort’s Dining Room is Executive Chef Warrick Brook. Chef Brook has been living and working in the Southern Highlands for the past 10 years and is passionate about supporting local growers and local seasonal produce, which is reflected in his menus. Chef Brook draws his influences from French, English, Italian and modern Australian cooking techniques whilst always trying to re-invent classic meals. He has also previously been awarded three consecutive regional Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Chef’s Hats, awarded to him in 2004, 2005 and 2006, at the Lynwood Cafe.
