Staying at a Peppers destination is all about creating those ‘remember when…’ moments, so we spoke with Peppers Parehua General Manager, Stacey Cameron to find out the hidden spots and local tips for experiencing the best of Martinborough.

For those who enjoy a little adventuring, Stacey has a few must visit secret spots, firstly there is the Double Bridges on the way to Opaki. Here you can jump off the rocks and into the deep, cool water of the Ruamahanga River. Another local favourite is Tauherenikau River; follow the river along to the end of Tauherenikau Gorge where you will find a wonderful natural swimming hole. Pack your swimmers, bring along a delicious lunch and happily while away your afternoon in the water and sunshine.

To sample the dining scene, we asked for the best of the best cafes and restaurants for specific occasions. For a private, romantic dinner for two, be sure to book into Peppers Pavilion Restaurant or Pinocchio’s in town, with both having the option of dining out under the stars, it will be a truly unforgettable evening. Once you’ve entered true holiday mode, a long brunch is a must. Wander over to Café Medici, with a menu encompassing all the favourites, like authentic eggs benedict and delicious homemade muesli or for a truly decadent experience, enjoy Sweet French toast with maple bacon and spiced blueberries.

For the best coffee in town, you absolutely cannot go past Kitcheners. A non-negotiable morning destination for Martinborough residents, this is the spot to start your day. Say ‘hi’ to the owner Sue, who’ll be more than happy to have a chat, enjoy the excellent service and of course the delicious coffee - by the time you’re departing, you’ll almost feel like a local too. To sample the famous Martinborough drop, plan a day trip to Tirohana Estate Vineyard. The boutique winery has been awarded several accolades for its Championship Pinot Noir. Sample the wine, dine at the restaurant or meander through the vineyards, for a truly beautiful experience.

To experience some truly breathtaking New Zealand scenery, Stacey has a few suggestions. Stand in awe of the Putangirua Pinnacles, which mark the entrance to Aorangi Forest Park. Created from water erosion, they can feel a little otherworldly, perhaps why they were chosen as a backdrop in Lord of the Rings… Visit Ngawi a small nearby fishing village, that has an incredibly nostalgic charm to it, or wander along Tora Coastal Walk, renowned for its stunning and diverse scenery.

To experience all the above for yourself, book in with Peppers Parehua, and be sure to ask for any extra local tips while you’re there…
