Top 3 to see: Drive tour from Launceston to Cradle Mountain

When travelling to Tasmania, you not only want to experience the best of each region you are staying in, but also enjoy the journey along the way. Follow the trail between Peppers Seaport Hotel, Launceston and Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge in Tasmania’s North West.

Only a 2 hour drive apart, these regions offer a world of different experiences from river cruising and penguin watching to gourmet food sampling and award winning wilderness spas.

Day 1: Launceston

1. Tamar River Cruise – Cruise along the famous river and view the Cataract Gorge in style over lunch, morning or afternoon tea.
2. Pinot Shop – Don’t miss this wine shop specialising in the best premium pinot noir so beautifully grown in the cool climates of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern regions of Australian.
3. Low Head Penguin Tour – On the pristine beaches of the Bass Strait, you’ll learn about the Fairy penguins and how most retain the same mate for life. On some days there could be up to 200 penguins in attendance!

Day 2: Launceston to Cradle Mountain

1. 41 Degree South Salmon and Ginseng Farm – This is a truly unique salmon farm, located inland with fresh water sourced from the Montana Falls. There are twenty fresh-water ponds, and the surrounding wetlands act as a 100% water filter system, to ensure the salmon’s environment is always pristine.
Take a self-guided walk around the salmon farm, feed the fish and sample the salmon and ginseng in the gift shop.
2. Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm – Catering to all your raspberry cravings, enjoy a delicious meal overlooking the lush green lawns. The café serves breakfasts and lunches using fresh local produce and of course raspberries sourced from the farm. 
3. Ashgrove Cheese – A beautiful Tasmanian produce supplier, come and try the farms ice cream, fresh bottled milk, cheese, cream and butter and stock up for your journey ahead. You can watch the cheese being made, where traditional techniques are combined with modern methods to produce the creamiest and sharpest cheeses. Be sure the try the ‘uniquely Tasmanian cheeses’ infused with wasabi, bush pepper or lavender.

Day 3: Cradle Mountain

1. Devils@Cradle – A wildlife sanctuary dedicated to research and the preservation of the Tasmanian devil. Take a guided tour and get to know our native marsupial.
2. Dove Lake – Take a walk around the stunning Dove Love and see Cradle Mountain, temperate rainforests and sub alpine plants. Admire Glacier Rock, which bears the marks of a glacier that collapsed during the Ice Age, it was this which carved out the basin that is now Dove Lake. Visit the much-photographed Boatshed, originally built in 1940m it still stands mostly unaltered. Canoe Tours are also available in summer.
3. Waldheim Alpine Spa – Wind down after a long day at one of Australia’s most spectacular wilderness spas overlooking rugged mountains and ancient forests.

Day 4: Cradle Mountain to Launceston

1. Cradle Mountain Candy Company – The original local lolly store stocking local flavoured honey and sweets from all over the world. Their own confections are even made on the premises!
2. Three Willows Vineyard – Offering exciting, cool climate wines, grown and made in the traditional way including foot stomping, delivering a truly handmade wine experience. See if you can spot the Vineyard’s three resident ducks, which keep the snail and slug population under control!
3. Liffey Falls – Enjoy the nature trail walk through the surrounding rainforest to the beautiful waterfalls. A series of four tiered-cascade waterfalls, they are a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.
