The History of Peppers

Peppers Guest House, the ideal base to experience the world-famous Hunter Valley vineyards In 1984, the Peppers brand was conceived when Mike and Suzi O'Connor opened Peppers Guest House in the Hunter Valley, NSW.  Their vision was to create a contemporary style guesthouse offering relaxation in luxury surrounds. It proved an instant success and within 18 months the property expanded to include conference facilities and an additional 18 guest rooms.

Peppers Guest House continued to flourish and in 1991 Peppers opened its second property, Peppers Convent, also in the Hunter Valley NSW. The property was a joint venture between Peppers, James Fairfax and restaurateurs, Robert and Sally Molines.

In 1993 Peppers continued to acquire properties however decided to separate its property ownership vehicle from its hotel management company ultimately enabling exciting growth into new markets in 1994. Peppers Seaport Hotel in Launceston, Tasmania joined the group in April, 2004, as Peppers' first Tasmanian property and heralded the renaming of the group to Peppers Retreats, Resorts & Hotels. Growth continued into the end of 2004 with the addition of Peppers' first international property, Peppers on the Point, located three hours south of Auckland in New Zealand.

Today Peppers Leisure Ltd, better known as Peppers Retreats, Resorts & Hotels has grown into a market leading management and marketing services company responsible for management and/or sales for over 20 premium Peppers retreats and resorts throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Our tradition of inviting guests to enjoy a plethora of unique and indulgent escapes with Peppers continues in 2009, with the opening of Peppers Bluewater Resort on Lake Tekapo (New Zealand) and Peppers Coral Coast in Airlie Beach (QLD).
